Getting the right support shouldn’t be complicated.
My central goal is to support you toward a healthier, happier, and more functional life. I work exclusively with adults, supporting concerns such as:
Anxiety-related difficulties, including OCD, PTSD, & Health Anxiety
Depression, Grief, & Burnout
Adult ADHD & ASD Diagnostic Assessments & Ongoing Support
Health conditions and chronic pain
Work-related stress and life transitions
If the challenges you’re facing don’t necessarily fit on the list above - that’s completely fine. I’m happy to discuss what you’d like support with and simply go from there.
The right fit matters - so here’s a bit about me.
I'm Tom Ford, a Clinical Psychologist based on the Central Coast, NSW. I started Forward Thinking because I believe good mental health support should be accessible, affordable, and flexible to your needs.
I’m passionate about supporting adults navigating Anxiety-related problems such as PTSD, OCD, & Health Anxiety; Depression & Grief; and Health-related concerns. My focus is always on real, lasting change: I'm not here to offer advice you could find on Instagram, or to spend your sessions on things that don't shift the needle.
In terms of how I work, I tend to keep things relaxed, I enjoy a laugh, and I think the best therapeutic work usually happens when you genuinely feel comfortable. That said, everything I do is grounded in evidence - I draw on CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, and EMDR depending on what you need.

Psychology support for Chronic Pain and Health-related concerns
While I work across a range of domains, one of my main special interest areas is supporting adults with complex health conditions, chronic pain, or navigating rehabilitation following an injury. I work closely with GPs, Allied Health, and other stakeholders and provide evidence-based support and guidance to help you along the way.
Whether you’re currently feeling overwhelmed and need focused strategies, or simply want to discuss your health and associated emotional distress, I would love to work with you. I aim to provide compassionate and practical support that lasts well beyond our sessions.

This varies depending on the person and the concerns you’re seeking support for. Some people find that 3–4 sessions are sufficient for short-term or specific issues. On average, many clients attend 6–10 sessions, which allows time for assessment and meaningful therapeutic work. More complex or long-standing difficulties may require longer-term support.
-
This is a common experience, and it’s completely understandable to feel unsure about trying again. While our clinicians bring experience and evidence-based skills, research consistently shows that the relationship with your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of success. The best way to explore whether therapy might be different this time is through a free 15-minute consultation, where we can talk openly about what hasn’t worked in the past and whether we’re well placed to help.
